Swimming Tapes
Swimming Tapes have revealed their third single “Tides”, out now via new London label Hand In Hive (Zuzu, Wyldest, Saltwater Sun).
The five piece newcomers - singing guitarists Robbie Reid and Louis Price, guitarist Jason Hawthorne, Paddy Conn on bass and drummer Andrew Evans - have been enjoying wide-spread praise since their self-released debut “Souvenirs” in March this year.
Its follow-up “Set The Fire” - premiered by Radio 1’s Phil Taggart and covered by the likes of DIY, Indie Shuffle and The Line Of Best Fit - hit number 1 on the Amazing Radio chart, went on to reach the HypeM top 3 and has clocked-up nearly 100k SoundCloud streams and 150k plays on Spotify.
“Tides”, which sees Price take the lead vocal duties for the first time, continues along the dream-pop theme that is effortlessly winning over Swimming Tapes fans: woozy, reverb-drenched layers of guitar and a warm, bouncing bass line provide the hazy bed for the gorgeously languid melody to paint another bucolic and beautifully nostalgic
picture.
Of the track the band explain : “Some memories are perfected by the passing of time, become dreamlike, intensified by the imagination. “Tides” is about those kind of memories, a plea to somehow go back in time and live in their magic.”
With comparisons ranging from Real Estate to Belle & Sebastian, Swimming Tapes are fresh off the back of a headline Communion club night show and will play London’s Mirrors Festival on 29 October alongside the likes of Bat For Lashes, Allah-Las and Bill Ryder-Jones.
