Hey guys I'm Marik! (Artist name is Mar!k) I'm a singer/songwriter/rapper/music producer and guitarist born in Hackney, London but I live in Leicester now with my Gran. When I was 4, me and my Mum moved to Antigua and I lived there for 12 years before coming back for college and university (where I now go to Bimm Birmingham). Because of my experience living in the Caribbean, I was exposed to a variety of genres like Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, and Calypso as well as American music (like R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop and Classic Rock), with my mum playing garage music and old school UK tunes growing up in the house. I like to keep my taste eclectic, a lways listening to something new to inspire my own work, and listening to a combination of genres, I genuinely don't have a stylistic preference as a consumer. However, as an artist, my main genres are Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B, Reggae, Soca, and Jazz, but I hope to expand as I study more genres. I love live performance and besides singing and songwriting have taught myself the art of freestyle, to the point where I'd wake up and just start walking around the house and rapping about stuff (kinda weird but it's fun haha). I also like to incorporate my freestyles into live performances, where I'd leave out a verse or section of my song and ask audience members for random words to form the verse off those (always fun to see their reaction).
